Police search for shoplifters who brandished knife at Publix

SPRING HILL -- Sheriff's investigators are looking for two people who shoplifted from a grocery store, pulled a knife on a store manager and then fled, a report states.

Deputies said employees of Publix at 4365 Commercial Way saw a couple stealing items and placing them in a diaper bag Wednesday. They left the store with two children, between 10 months and 2 years old, at about 3:45 p.m.

An employee and store manager ordered the couple to stop, but they didn't, according to a sheriff's report.

The employees followed the couple outside, where the woman hit one of them. Then the man pulled a knife and said, "If you don't back off, I'm going to cut you."

The couple drove off in a 1977 let Suburban and headed south on Commercial Way.

Witnesses wrote down the license plate number and told deputies the couple had a large roll of carpet in their car. Deputies went to the nearby Home Depot and learned that the couple had just bought the carpet there and obtained a receipt.

If captured, the couple could face charges of armed robbery and battery.

Motorcyclist, 44, injured after crash on Cortez Boulevard

BROOKSVILLE -- A 44-year-old man riding a motorcycle was injured in a crash at Cortez and Sherman Hills boulevards Thursday afternoon.

Authorities did not release the man's name on Thursday. He was airlifted for medical treatment and paramedics said they thought he would recover.

Michael Pernicone, 85, said he had gone to refill a prescription and traveled straight across Cortez Boulevard toward his home in Sherman Hills.

He said he felt the collision with a motorcyclist.

He pulled his car off the road and went to help the man, who was unconscious.

"I hope he's all right, that's all I can say," Pernicone said.
