LARGO -- An Illinois man lost part of a leg in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon on Walsingham Road.

Steven Muenz was flown by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital, where he was undergoing surgery Saturday night, authorities said.

Muenz was driving a motorcycle that collided with a car about 4:45 p.m. at the entrance of Indian Palms Apartments at 13300 Walsingham, police said. The motorcycle skidded for about 75 feet after the collision, and one of Muenz's legs was caught beneath the cycle.

Muenz's passenger, Emily Kentiake of Illinois, suffered minor injuries, police said.

A 17-year-old girl was driving the car that collided with the motorcycle. Her name was not immediately available.

"We don't know who was at fault yet," said Largo police Officer Tim Vaughan.
