Mimi's Cafe is coming to townBy Times staff© St. Petersburg Times published October 13, 2002 CARROLLWOOD: Not long ago it was Grady's American Grill. Then it became Tony Roma's. Soon, Mimi's Cafe will give Main Street a shot and open a 7,000-square-foot restaurant on the .6-acre site on Dale Mabry Highway south of Stall Road. The California-based restaurant is expected to open by the end of the year, serving diners traditional American dishes in a French bistro-style atmosphere. The restaurant plans to serve beer and wine at its first Florida location, but must first get approval from Hillsborough County. A land use hearing officer is scheduled to hear the alcohol waiver request Nov. 22. (Petition 03-0021) CARROLLWOOD: A local real estate broker is asking for a rezoning that would allow an office building on Orange Grove Drive south of Stall Road. In addition to the proposed two-story building, Mark Weiss of Mark-It Realty Group says the project would include restoring the 65-year-old home that now sits on the property. If approved, the development would be completed by December 2004. A zoning hearing master is scheduled to hear about the project Jan. 13. (Petition 02-1444) ODESSA: It has been several months since Beazer Homes first broke ground on the 40-home Lake Leta subdivision at the southeast corner of Wilcox and Hutchison roads. Homes are under construction and purchase contracts are pending. But recently the zoning staff discovered that the barrier wall surrounding the subdivision has been built 7 feet closer than the county's minimum 30-foot requirement from the right of way. So Beazer now is asking for permission to change the setback rules for the wall. County commissioners are scheduled to vote on the petition Nov. 12. (Petition 02-1411) CITRUS PARK: The Eckerd retail and pharmacy scheduled to open this month across from Sickles High School is requesting a permit that would allow the store on Gunn Highway to sell packaged beer and wine. According to the petition, Eckerd needs a waiver because the store is within 250 feet of homes and less than 500 feet from the school. A land use hearing officer is scheduled to hear the request Nov. 8. (Petition 02-1412) CITRUS PARK: An office and a restaurant could soon occupy more than 8 acres off Sheldon Road across from the new Outback Steakhouse. Todd Pressman, who represents the property owner, is seeking the rezoning that would allow for commercial retail uses. A zoning hearing master is scheduled to hear the proposal Nov. 18. (Petition 02-1445) County commissioners voted on the following requests at the Oct. 8 land use meeting:CARROLLWOOD: Mobley Housing Group won approval to build a 91-home subdivision on 38 acres on the west side of Hutchison Road northwest of Pennington Road. (Petition 02-0881) ODESSA: Commissioners approved a plan to add 13 more homes to the existing Canterbury and Hunter's Glen subdivisions off Brown Road south of Lake Cypress Drive.
