Bucs

Bucs

Safety John Lynch, who played despite an injured right knee to extend his games played streak to 65, dating to Nov.8, 1998:

"As of Saturday night, I didn't think I would be able to go. But I came out (Sunday) morning with Coach (Jon) Gruden, and it felt better. I watched all week these things about Derrick Brooks and Brett Favre and playing so many games in a row, and you begin to take pride in that. We have guys playing here with broken ankles, so the standard is pretty high."

Quarterback Brad Johnson, who threw for 194 yards but completed fewer than half of his passes, something he did only three times last season:

"We left a lot of points out on the field. We got down in the red zone a couple of times, had to throw it away a couple of times and had a couple of mishaps on field goals. It's great to have sort of an ugly day like we did and still win."

* * *

Center Jeff Christy, on the big rushing day:

"It definitely felt good to finally get 100 yards rushing. Each week, it hasn't been there the way we'd like it to be."

* * *

Kicker Martin Gramatica, on the blocked field goal during the third quarter:

"A guy could have picked it up and ran it, so that's a reaction to kick it out of bounds."

* * *

Johnson, on having Warren Sapp in the huddle:

"I think it's the only time he ever shuts up. He takes it very seriously."

* * *

Johnson, on the Browns defense:

"They actually didn't do a lot of the things we expected them to do. I think with (safety) Robert Griffith hurt, I think it kind of changed some of their coverages. With Griff out, it made a big impact on their defense."

* * *

Gruden, on if the defense compares with the 2000 Ravens:

"I'm not going to go there. I'm not going to compare. We have a different style of defense, but it is, obviously, playing extremely well."

Browns Quotebook

Coach Butch Davis, on his team's offensive struggles leading to a tired defense:

"We're getting worn out. Late in the game, with the time of possession and the number of times the defense has to go out there, the offense has some three-and-outs and the defense is back out there. That's been the Bucs' MO. They get a lead, and they'll just grind you and pound you."

* * *

Receiver Kevin Johnson, who had two catches for 11 yards:

"(The Bucs) are a good team, but I'm not going to say they're that good where we can't drive down the field. They have flaws, too. I just don't think we executed very well."

* * *

Quarterback Tim Couch, on the offense:

"As strange as it may seem, we're a heck of a lot closer than it looks. We're a couple of plays here and there if we hit them, it's a different ballgame. We've just got to start making those plays."

* * *

Running back Jamel White:

"When you play Tampa, you only get one or two opportunities a game. We got those but couldn't convert."

* * *

Davis on his team:

"Hopefully, this team has a future in front of it. Are they building something that's short term or something that's long term? Our goal will come. We've just got to keep doing what Tampa Bay did."
