BRANDON -- With the Carolina Hurricanes facing the St. Louis Blues tonight, expect the NHL to rule today on possible suspensions from Saturday's stick-swinging incident between Tampa Bay's Chris Dingman and Carolina's Jesse Boulerice.

Dingman received a high-sticking match penalty with 4:26 left for whacking Boulerice in the head. Boulerice got two minutes for the same infraction. Dingman said his actions were retaliatory, and Lightning coach John Tortorella said the claim is backed by video.

"He hit him twice in the head," Tortorella said of Boulerice.

"I have no track record," Dingman said after practice at the Ice Sports Forum. "Maybe they'll see his whack on the side of my head."

MODIN RESTS INJURY: Left wing Fredrik Modin (groin) did not skate Monday. The team hopes he will be ready for Friday's game against the Thrashers. ... Wing Martin St. Louis missed practice with the flu.

Monday's games

BRUINS 2, AVALANCHE 1: Sergei Samsonov scored a power-play goal with half a second left, lifting visiting Boston.

With the game appearing to head for overtime, Samsonov ended it with a shot from the left circle.

Boston scored on its 17th power-play shot of the night after Milan Hejduk was penalized for pulling down P.J. Axelsson on a partial breakaway at 19:15.

Bruins goalie John Grahame made 24 saves; Colorado's Patrick Roy had 35.

Colorado, idle since its opener Wednesday, was outshot 37-25.

COYOTES 4, JACKETS 2: Daniel Briere assisted on two of visiting Phoenix's three power-play goals. The game set Columbus records for most penalties by the Blue Jackets (15), an opponent (19) and combined penalty minutes (108).

Ladislav Nagy, Shane Doan and Paul Mara had power-play goals.

PENGUINS 5, LEAFS 4: Mario Lemieux scored twice and assisted on Aleksey Morozov's two power-play goals as visiting Pittsburgh avenged its worst opening-game loss.

Morozov also had two assists for the Penguins, who have won two straight after Thursday's 6-0 home loss to Toronto.

FLAMES 3, CANUCKS 2: Rookie Chuck Kobasew scored with 4:38 left as visiting Calgary rallied from a two-goal deficit for its first victory. Kobasew's shot from the slot went off the blocker of Dan Cloutier and bounced in off of Vancouver defenseman Ed Jovanovski, who was tied up with Marc Savard driving to the net.

CANUCKS: Defenseman Nolan Baumgartner was recalled from Manitoba of the AHL.

COYOTES: Defenseman Todd Simpson is out 2-3 weeks with a broken right hand. He was hurt fighting Dallas' Manny Malhotra.

ISLANDERS: The team recalled forwards Raffi Torres and Justin Mapletoft from Bridgeport of the AHL. Wing Trent Hunter and defenseman Tomi Pettinen were sent to Bridgeport.

RANGERS: Defenseman Richard Lintner will miss four weeks with a sprained ligament and a bone bruise in his left knee.

SABRES: Defenseman Dmitri Kalinin was sent to Rochester of the AHL.

Parrots make moves

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Parrots, one of six minor-league teams in the first-year Atlantic Coast Hockey League, trimmed their 25-player training camp roster to 16.

The team waived Tyler Bruno, Andreas Anderrson, Mike English, Matt Wargo, Jiri Frybort, Travis Ramsay, Brian Rankin, Jamie Taylor and Andy Schofield.

The Parrots open the season against the Jacksonville Barracudas at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Times Arena at Bayfront Center.
