Doughnut/ice cream shop planned

SOUTH PASADENA -- A joint Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins ice cream restaurant is coming to Pasadena Avenue. Construction likely will begin on the project -- planned for the northern parking lot of Bank of America, 985 Pasadena Ave. S -- in a month or so.

The eatery, which will include a drive-through lane, will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily. It will be the second drive-through window in South Pasadena, joining Wendy's. (A Boston Market has only a pickup window, not an ordering station with a speaker.)

Dale and Charmain Bertling of St. Petersburg have a contract to purchase the site from Bank of America, according to documents filed with the city. The building will be 25,950 square feet, and the project is expected to cost $750,000.

Villas del Verde townhomes fill up

GULFPORT -- About 15 townhomes already are occupied in the 62-unit Villas del Verde townhomes under construction on Gulfport Boulevard.

The 62 homes near the Pasadena Yacht and Country Club, 6300 Pasadena Point Blvd. S, will be built in 11 buildings, broker Donna Graham said. She said about half have been sold.

The two-story homes range in size from 2,300 to 2,600 square feet and feature three bedrooms, 21/2 bathrooms and two-car garages. Prices for the new homes range from $279,000 to $349,000.

CFS Developments and Scherer Construction & Engineering are developing Villas del Verde.

Doctor opens sports vision clinic

ST. PETERSBURG -- Brian Shenker, doctor of optometry, has opened a sports vision clinic at 5100 Central Ave. He shares offices with Michael Phillips, also a doctor of optometry.

Shenker said the clinic works with children, high school athletes and leisure athletes to help them improve eye-and-hand coordination and accuracy and response speed, among other things.

Grand Prix adds to business staff

ST. PETERSBURG -- Bradley Doran and James Piatt have been hired as business development managers for the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Tom Begley, president and general manager for the Grand Prix, said the two will research and analyze demographics and target groups for ticket sales, among other things.

The Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, a car race put on by the Championship Auto Racing Teams, will be Feb. 21-23 on a 1.78-mile downtown course.
