County Services Expo to entertain, informBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published October 19, 2002 LECANTO -- The Citrus County Services Expo is composed of events taking place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Lecanto Government Complex, the Fire Training Center, Lecanto Senior Center and the Citrus County Canning Kitchen. The Expo includes a day of demonstrations, activities and informational booths -- a convenient, one-stop opportunity to learn more about the many county services that are offered. The Fire Services Division will demonstrate live burns, rope rescue, rappelling, aerial ladder deployment, LP gas live burn and hazmat mitigation exercises at the Fire Training Center. There will be exhibitions of tai chi, crafts, storytelling and a variety of entertainers. The Citrus County Health Department offers free vision screenings for children, as well as blood pressure and sugar screenings for adults. Flu shots will be available for $15 and pneumonia shots for $20 -- Medicare Part B accepted, or cash payments. A firetruck, ambulance, Aeromed 3 helicopter, Fire Safety House, the Sheriff's Mobile Crime Prevention Unit and motorcycle unit will be on hand for the public to observe at the Lecanto Government Complex and the Fire Training Center. Many activities will be geared to kids, including games, balloon sculpturing, face painting and clowns. Learn about home fire safety in a realistic setting at the Fire Safety House, and the Citrus County Sheriff's Office will bring its CompuKid program to the Lecanto Government Complex. Bring your children by for digital fingerprinting and photo IDs. Free round trip transportation between facilities by Citrus County Transit buses every 15 minutes begins at 9 a.m. at the Lecanto Government Complex. The Lecanto Government Building will host many of the demonstrations, vehicle displays, free health screenings, youth activities and informational booths. All fire-related demonstrations will be held at the Fire Training Center. Animal Control plans to have animals available for adoption. The Lecanto Senior Center will provide musical entertainment, while the Canning Center highlights food preservation techniques. Hot dogs and drinks are offered by the Homosassa Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary for $1.50.
