VIRGINIA WATER, England -- Ernie Els faces Sergio Garcia in the World Match Play final today.
Els beat Vijay Singh 3 and 2, and Garcia beat Michael Campbell 2 and 1 Saturday with the help of eagle on the 17th hole.
It will be the fifth World Match Play final for Els, who won three in a row from 1994-96. The finalists are friends, and Garcia recently bought Els' house in Orlando when Els moved into a different house on the same street.
In his 36-hole semifinal, pars were enough for Els to win the first three holes, as Singh bogeyed them all. Singh's wild second shot at the 19th struck a woman on the head -- she was not injured -- and he fell five behind after five holes of the afternoon round. He got three of them back, but Els wrapped up the match on the 34th.
Campbell won the first two holes and the sixth against Garcia, but the Spaniard battled back and closed out the match at the 35th when he chipped in for eagle.
SBC CHAMPIONSHIP: Dana Quigley, who has played in 200 straight events for which he has been eligible since August 1997, shot 7-under 64 for a one-stroke lead over Vicente Fernandez in the Senior PGA Tour event at San Antonio, Texas. He was at 10-under 132. Fernandez shot 67, holing a 6-footer on the par-3 18th for his third birdie in four holes. George Archer, 2-up on Friday, shot 73-137.
BAD BILLBOARDS: Tiger Woods' agent said billboards in Michigan featuring Woods' likeness and calling for passage of a state proposal are out of bounds. Mark Steinberg said neither he nor Woods gave permission to use the likeness.
SKIP ALEXANDER CITY AMATEUR: Kyle McCarthy closed with 70 to win at Mangrove Bay in St. Petersburg. His 5-under 139 was seven better than Doug Root (73) and Carson Crooms (72). Spencer Gaylord (75) won the senior division in a playoff against Jim Bova (72) after they shot 148. Danielle Jackson (80-156) topped the women.
