Guilty plea ends 2-year-old drug case
By CHASE SQUIRES, Times Staff Writer
DADE CITY -- The 32-year-old husband of a former Pasco County Courthouse employee pleaded guilty Monday to two reduced counts of providing drugs to three 16-year-old girls, resolving a case that began two years ago. In exchange for a 28-month prison term, Kirk Spencer Szymborski of Dade City had his two charges of felony child abuse reduced to providing marijuana to children. The girls originally told investigators Szymborski had provided the drug ecstasy, but prosecutor Stacey Sumner said the negotiated plea was best for all involved and had been approved by the girls' families. Since he and his wife were arrested in June of 2000, Szymborski had been charged with child abuse, tampering with a victim and lewd and lascivious molestation. The tampering and molestation charges were later dropped. Under Monday's plea agreement, Szymborski will remain free on bail until Dec. 26, when he is to be formally sentenced. His wife, Michele Beth Szymborski, 33, pleaded no contest last year to two counts of child abuse. She has remained free on bail pending sentencing, which was to be sometime after her husband's case was resolved. She had been a clerk at the courthouse but has not worked there since her arrest. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
