Starship singer lands honor

Grace Slick, lead singer of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship and Starship through the 1960s, '70s and '80s, has been inducted into Hollywood's RockWalk on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Slick, 62, is retired from music and has turned to painting. Her work includes portraits of old friends such as Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.

Her hand prints and signature were placed in cement Tuesday for installation outside the Guitar Center music store. Other musicians on the sidewalk include B.B. King, Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt and John Lee Hooker.

Second peek at Anna Nicole

E! Entertainment Television announced Thursday that its reality sitcom series, The Anna Nicole Show, has been picked up for a sophomore season. The buxom Anna Nicole Smith ends her first season Monday at 10 p.m.

Wanted: underwear, slightly used

Tom Jones says he's insulted when women throw their underwear at him -- but only if they haven't been wearing them.

Jones is fed up with women bringing extra pairs of panties in plastic bags to his concerts to throw at him, saying that when the tradition began in the '60s, "the whole thing was authentic."

"Nowadays they bring along a plastic bag with their underwear in it," Jones tells German magazine Bunte. "It has nothing to do with enthusiasm anymore. I actually take it as an insult.

"I give it my all onstage because I want to fill the crowd with enthusiasm -- but that which comes from the heart and not out of a plastic bag."

Kevin Smith Way or the highway

A Paulsboro, N.J., street has been renamed in honor of director Kevin Smith, a New Jersey native who's filming Jersey Girl there.

Tyler Street became Kevin Smith Way during a ceremony organized by borough officials.

"Hopefully nothing nefarious will happen on Kevin Smith Way but, if it does, call my lawyers," the 32-year-old director quipped Tuesday.

Smith said Jersey Girl, tentatively scheduled for release next October, would premiere in Paulsboro.

The small-town love story stars off-screen couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez.
