PHILADELPHIA -- Michal Handzus scored twice during a 2:10 span in the second period Thursday night to lead the Flyers to a 6-2 victory over the Canadiens.

Keith Primeau also had two goals and Marty Murray and Pavl Brendl each scored one.

Primeau's first goal of the season gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead 2:26 into the second. He one-timed a crossing pass past goaltender Jose Theodore.

Handzus scored his second 6:39 into the second to make it 4-1. The goal sent Theodore to the bench. The winner of the Hart Trophy for NHL MVP and the Vezina Trophy last season, Theodore is 1-3-1 and has allowed 20 goals in five games.

BRUINS 2, SENATORS 2: Brian Rolston scored to tie it in the third and Steve Shields stopped 30 shots to remain unbeaten as Boston celebrated Terry O'Reilly Night. The Bruins retired O'Reilly's No. 24 before the game with a ceremony in which Ray Bourque called the former captain "the ultimate Bruin."

STARS 3, FLAMES 3: Jere Lehtinen scored with 2:49 left in the third, tying Dallas with host Calgary.

AVALANCHE 3, COYOTES 3: Rob Blake scored the go-ahead goal as Colorado rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat host Phoenix in Patrick Roy's record-setting 972nd game. Roy, who passed Terry Sawchuk for the most appearances by a goaltender, had 27 saves while extending NHL leadership in career wins to 519.

BLUES: Goaltender Tom Barrasso reached a tentative deal. St. Louis also reached a deal with free-agent left wing Martin Rucinsky, pending a physical exam. Terms were not disclosed

CAPITALS: Washington claimed defenseman Alex Henry off waivers from the Oilers.

LAWSUIT: Arthur Bartolozzi, the former Flyers orthopedist whom retired defenseman Dave Babych is suing for lost wages and damages in Atlantic County, N.J., Civil Court, testified the player never told him he was in too much pain to play before Game 1 of the 1998 opening-round series.
