ST. PETERSBURG -- The Amistad, a replica of a ship that generated a famous 19th century civil rights case, is expected to dock at the Pier in downtown St. Petersburg today.

The floating classroom will be open for public tours Monday through Nov. 3. Tours are 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Nov. 3. Cost is $5 adults, $3 for senior citizens and children under 12.

Evening harbor cruises, $25 per person, also are available. Breakfast cruises for $35 are Saturday and Nov. 3. Call toll-free (866) 264-7823 for reservations.

On weekday mornings, school groups are scheduled to tour the ship, whose mission is to teach about slavery and race relations.

A community dialogue entitled "Freedom vs. control: How much is too much?" is from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Florida International Museum, 100 Second St. N.
