    15 seek Florida Supreme Court seat

    TALLAHASSEE -- Fifteen attorneys and judges from North Florida have applied for the next opening on the Florida Supreme Court.

    Justice Leander Shaw will retire from the court early next year after 20 years as a justice. His successor must come from the area covered by the 1st District Court of Appeal: 32 counties from Pensacola to Jacksonville.

    The applicants include four 1st DCA judges, three state trial judges and two administrative law judges. The remaining six applicants are attorneys.

    The Judicial Nominating Commission will interview candidates in mid November and submit at least three and up to six names to the governor's office by Nov. 15.
