KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Seahawks receiver Darrell Jackson was released from a Texas hospital Monday, one day after sustaining a concussion and having a seizure following Seattle's 17-14 win over Dallas.
Coach Mike Holmgren said Jackson had a CT scan and tests on his head and neck after the game and again Monday morning. No serious damage was found.
"He was, by all reports, joking around when he was moved out of the intensive-care unit," Holmgren said.
More tests are planned this week in Seattle and Jackson's status for Sunday's game against Washington was unknown. Holmgren said those tests would try to determine why Jackson, a former Tampa Catholic and Florida Gator standout, had the seizure.
"Darrell is going to be fine, but for anybody who was in the locker room during this process, it was scary," Holmgren said.
Also, quarterback Trent Dilfer had surgery on his torn right Achilles' tendon. The ex-Buc starter is out for the season.
COWBOYS: When Emmitt Smith turned on his cell phone for the first time since becoming the league's career rushing leader, he had 34 messages.
"It's amazing that it stopped on 34," Smith said, noting that was the number the late Walter Payton wore for the Bears while setting the record.
The messages were from former teammates and friends who weren't at Texas Stadium when Smith broke Payton's mark of 16,726 yards.
Among those who left a message was Miami Hurricanes running back Jarrett Payton, who didn't see Smith break his father's record live, but saw a highlight later.
"I was a little sad," said Payton, who father died in 1999. "It's strange. I always knew someone would break it, but I felt a little sad when I got the news. ... I mean, we know Emmitt and he's a guy I have a pretty good relationship with. I'm glad for him and happy a guy like Emmitt broke the record. ... I guess I was just kind of remembering about the day my dad broke the record and how I was feeling that day."
REDSKINS: Running back Stephen Davis sprained his right knee against Indianapolis. His status is uncertain for Sunday's game against Seattle but coach Steve Spurrier said, "He probably should be okay to play."
The Newport News (Va.) Daily Press reported that Davis' days with the team appear numbered, with a salary-cap figure close to $11-million in 2003.
L.A. SUPER BOWL: The Los Angeles Times reported that the league's Super Bowl committee approved a proposal to schedule a Super Bowl in the Los Angeles area, possibly in 2008. The league declined to comment.
