Activities for children and teens

The St. Petersburg Times has many special events and activities for children. Here is a list:

Books 4 Kids

Donate a new book for children ages 4 to 14, including books in Spanish, and receive a voucher for two Tampa Bay Lightning tickets. The books will be distributed to the Family Service Center's Families Reading Together Program. (Offer valid for first 400 book donors.) Located in Story Land.

Kids Create

The Junior League of St. Petersburg will host arts and crafts projects for kids. Story Land.

Story Book Character Parade

Kids in Grade 3 and below may don a storybook character costume and participate in this parade with Shana Banana, numerous characters from children's books, Spot the News Hound and X-Man. Parade registration begins at 11 a.m. Parade starts at 1 p.m. Located in Story Land.

Razzmatazz Entertainment

Roving ventriloquism, magic and juggling by Razzmatazz. 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Located in Story Land.

Skip the Balloon Man

Skip the Balloon Man creates amazing balloon art. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Located in Story Land.

Big Top Story Tent

Children will hear their favorite picture books read aloud inside the Big Top Story Tent. Readers include Michael Stearns (Kokopelli & the Butterfly) Martha Newcomer (The Runaway Bed), and members of the Times' X-Team. Located in Story Land.

Newspaper In Education

The St. Petersburg Times Newspaper In Education booth will host seven young authors who collaborated to write "Boomerang Bully," a fictional series of stories about bullying, intimidation and harassment. Receive autographed copies of Boomerang Bully, Times NIE pencils and free newspaper learning guides for students. Located in Story Land.

Billy Norris

Billy Norris, youth film critic for the St. Petersburg Times, will talk about what it's like being a film critic for movie buffs younger than 18. If you love to write and would like some tips, now's your chance to ask questions. Roberts Music Center 101, 12:30-1 p.m.
