Chucky's Chalk Talk

By RICK STROUD, Times Staff Writer

On the Vikings defense:

"A lot of people are more into stats than they are who's winning and who's losing. I think if you look at Minnesota against Chicago, they're probably in the top three or four defensive teams in the league. That's really the only thing that matters, to be honest with you, what their true capability is. If you look at their defense line, you know they can generate a pass rush. They're going to come in here and play a physical style of defense. I'm totally oblivious to statistics.

On the Vikings declaration that they won't allow the Bucs to run the ball down their throats as in years past:

"That's the way it usually is. I'm not going to get real deep and philosophical about the NFL. We've been told we can't win a game in October, certainly on the road. So you've got to prove what you're saying you're going to do, and I'm sure they're dead set on doing that. They're certainly capable of being a strong, inside defensive football team."

On the ploy of the Vikings arriving in Tampa on Friday:

"We've always done that on west coast trips and things of that nature. But I think it's a creative ploy by them to try and stimulate their team. I think it's a good move. You change it up a little bit. Certainly, the schedule change might have a little impact on some of these guys, you never know."
