Letters to the EditorsHome mistreats most vulnerable
© St. Petersburg Times Editors: I was shocked and appalled at the contents of the article, "A House of Hope" (10/18/02.) Hope Children's Home supposedly cares for children who have suffered abuse and mistreatment by inflicting physical and emotional harm on them with the use of a paddle. Many of these children have been taken from their homes because they have been abused and mistreated; then, they are sent to a another "home" to suffer all over again. Poor Douglas has suffered the paddle 12 times in three months! This is an outrage, not only cruel but unlawful.
The Department of Children and Families has the legal responsibility to shut down Hope Children's Home immediately. Kathy Troy, Tampa
