CHASSAHOWITZKA -- The whooping cranes making their way to Citrus County from Wisconsin flew 48 miles Sunday morning.

The cranes, trained to follow ultralight aircraft, are now in Boone County, Ind., and have traveled 335 miles of the 1,250-mile journey south.

Researchers are teaching the cranes the migration route in hopes of re-establishing the endangered species in eastern North America.
