CAPCOM VS. SNK PRO

  • Company: Capcom
  • System: PlayStation One Price: $49.99
  • Rating: T

When two of the best factions of video-game fighters meet, something good is bound to happen. Capcom Vs. SNK has all of the good aspects of the Street Fighter and King of Fighters games. It features about 35 characters from those two game series. It has many different modes of play, including arcade, two-player and training. It also features five different levels of turbo, with the speed of game play increasing greatly at each succeeding level. Players have the option of choosing to play with either two strong characters or four weaker characters. After one is defeated, the next one is put in to fight the battle. Because of the large number of characters available to choose from, you could play for a very long time without having the same outcome. The graphics are about the same as the Super Nintendo versions from which these games originated. Capcom Vs. SNK Pro is recommended for anybody who likes old-fashioned fighting games like Street Fighter.

GUNGRAVE

  • Company: Sega
  • System: PlayStation 2
  • Price: $49.99
  • Rating: M

You have to really like shooting to play Gungrave. There are not many points in this game when you will stop shooting for long. Gungrave involves a man named Grave, who was supposedly dead but has returned to fight a criminal organization called the Syndicate that betrayed him. He is equipped with two huge guns called Cerberos and carries a coffin on his back that is filled with missles and heavy machine guns. Gungrave is an anime-style game with Japanese dubbing and English subtitles. Many people may not like that, but it isn't all that bothersome because there is limited dialogue and plot development. Gungrave is a relatively short game, but the mayhem and excitement are constant. The graphics are good, with well-flowing cinemas and quality in-game graphics. The upbeat, trumpet-heavy music, while it doesn't fit the darker side of the game, is fun to listen to while tearing up bad guys. While all the action is exciting, it also provides the primary downside to the game: There are so few breaks in the action that you are required to keep shooting almost constantly. I recommend this game for trigger-happy anime lovers.

Grade: B+
