TAMPA -- A man who police say abducted a hitchhiker while posing as a police officer was arrested Monday.

Ralph Monroe Hair, 37, of 1521 Lancelot Loop was charged Monday with impersonating an officer and false imprisonment.

Police said that about 2:30 a.m. Monday, Hair picked up 30-year-old Pamela Campbell.

Hair told Campbell he was a police officer, and when Campbell asked to see ID, he pulled over and handcuffed her wrist, police said.

He attempted to drag Campbell to the back of his truck, but she broke free.

Police said Campbell jumped out, but Hair grabbed her again. A motorist saw the struggle and called police.

Hair was being held Monday in Orient Road Jail on $6,000 bail.
