ST. PETERSBURG -- Yes, you could get that perfume for her and necktie for him this holiday. Or you could give something original, something . . . artistic.
Both the Arts Center and Florida Craftsmen open their holiday shows Friday with offerings that range from $5 pins to five-figure paintings, one-of-a-kind holiday ornaments and decorations. And both venues have new shows that give shoppers even more options for creative gift-giving. "On the Surface: Figurative Glass" at the Arts Center brings in seven artists who treat their sometime utilitarian medium with sculptural beauty. Florida Craftsmen reprises "The Teapot and Cups Show" with a collection of vessels by various artists.
Art galleries also are good sources for interesting gifts. The monthly Gallery Walk is an opportunity to check out those in downtown St. Petersburg (see list at left). Look for galleries in your area in the Weekend Art Calendar. And when you visit a museum, peruse their gift shops -- all in the Tampa Bay area have well-stocked shelves right now.
