By Times staff writer Campaigns end with infant, broken footEven after she lost a close battle in the race for the 5th Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Karen Thurman managed to find joy in her granddaughter, Karlee. Thurman cradled the 6-week-old infant in her arms as she addressed her supporters and reporters at an election night gathering at the Best Western Lodge in Citrus Hills. The tot, dressed in an orange jumper, looked perfectly content despite the shouts of KA-REN! KA-REN! KA-REN! echoing around her. "You know, I think she likes this!" Thurman said. "The next generation!" yelled one of her supporters. * * * THESE BOOTS WERE MADE FOR HOBBLING: As a member of the state House of Representatives, Nancy Argenziano once won the chamber's annual Boot Day contest. She celebrated by dancing down the House aisle in her thigh-high footwear. But there was no dancing, or thigh-high boots, for Argenziano on election night, even though she won a state Senate seat and had reason to celebrate. The reason Argenziano stayed off the dance floor: She broke a bone in her foot the previous weekend while campaigning. -- Times staff writers Carrie Johnson and Jim Ross compiled this report.
