BOSTON -- Paul Pierce scored 35 and the Celtics used 3-pointers to overcome a halftime deficit and beat the Jazz 112-95 Monday night.
Utah aided Boston, which has won five straight since opening 0-2, with 29 turnovers. The Jazz led 45-41 at halftime as Boston made just 1-of-12 behind the arc. But the Celtics hit five 3s in the third and four in the fourth.
MAVS 82, BLAZERS 73: Dirk Nowitzki had 26 points and a season-high 17 rebounds for host Dallas. Portland was without Bonzi Wells, who was suspended without pay one game for spitting on San Antonio forward Danny Ferry on Saturday night. Dallas' Nick Van Exel had surgery on his right knee and is expected to miss 3-6 weeks.
SPURS 91, T'WOLVES 75: Tim Duncan scored 20 and Steve Kerr made five 3-pointers for host San Antonio. Rasho Nesterovic scored 16 to lead Minnesota, which shot only 36 percent from the floor.
WARRIORS 108, GRIZZLIES 101: Antawn Jamison had 37 points and 11 rebounds for visiting Golden State. Pau Gasol's 24 points led Memphis.
BULLS: General manager Jerry Krause dispeled the Jalen Rose-for-Latrell Sprewell rumors.
"We're going to end this absurdity," he told the Chicago Tribune. "I just talked to Jalen and I told him there is totally no truth to all these rumors. ... I wouldn't say it to him again except his family had heard it. All this junk that has been printed, there is totally no truth to it. So that ends that."
Rose, who will make $11.2-million this season, has a similar salary to the Knicks' Sprewell ($12.3-million), which made a deal seem possible, espn.com reported.
ARENA OKAYED: The Charlotte City Council approved an agreement between the city and NBA, clearing the way for an expansion team to replace the Hornets. It would play one season in the Charlotte Coliseum, then move to a $257.5-million arena.
