Photography with a Florida perspective

He dislikes the frequent comparisons with Ansel Adams, but Clyde Butcher infuses his Florida landscapes with the same emotive power. The first retrospective of Butcher's work is on display at the Tampa Gallery of Photographic Arts, on the second level of Old Hyde Park Village, 746 S Village Circle, Tampa, through Jan. 5.

The exhibition begins with early work and the later, famous large-format camera images of his beloved Everglades. (Adams, incidentally, photographed every national park but the Everglades.) The museum is open 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. (813) 251-1800.
