Aurora Quartet tunes up for concert

Music of Bizet, Mozart, Piazzola and others is on the program of the Aurora Quartet, which gives the second concert in a series presented by the Florida Guitar Alliance. Quartet members, clockwise from lower left, are Christopher Dunn, Rafael Padron, Keishi and Akiko Sumi. Fresh from a tour of Japan, they play at 8 p.m. Friday in the Student Services Auditorium on the Dale Mabry Campus of Hillsborough Community College, Tampa. Tickets: $7, free to HCC students. Guest conductor serves up coffee concert

Another resident conductor candidate is making an appearance with the Florida Orchestra. Chelsea Tipton II, above, associate conductor of the Savannah Symphony Orchestra in Georgia, leads today's coffee concert at 11 a.m. in the Mahaffey Theater at Bayfront Center. The program is Spanish-themed, with works by De Falla, Lecuona and Albeniz, among others; associate concertmaster Stewart Kitts is the soloist. FSU undergraduate orchestra to perform

The Florida State University Philharmonia, above, plays Rossini's overture to La Gazza Ladra, Bach's Violin Concerto in A minor and Dvorak's Symphony No. 6 on its South Florida tour. Alexander Jimenez conducts the undergraduate orchestra, and FSU faculty member Karen Clarke is the soloist in the Bach at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Neel Auditorium, Manatee Community College, 5840 26th St. W, Bradenton. Annual Verdi concert moves to fall

Sarasota Opera artistic director Victor DeRenzi, above, leads the annual Verdi concert this weekend, with five soloists and the Florida West Coast Symphony. Selections from Aida, La Forza del Destino, Rigoletto and Un Ballo in Maschera will be sung by Christina Bouras, Victoria Litherland, Malin Fritz, Todd Geer and Joshua Benaim.
Since 1994, the Verdi concert has been given during the opera season in February and March. This is the first time it has been in the fall. Concerts are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Sarasota Opera House. Tickets are $22-$37. An Italian buffet will be served before the Saturday performance for $75.
