HOLLYWOOD -- You know it's a coup for independent film when a picture that reportedly cost $5-million to make becomes the fifth-highest-grossing film of the year, edging out a high-profile sequel backed by a $100-million budget.

Already the highest-grossing independent film of all time, My Big Fat Greek Wedding reached its latest milestone last weekend, with a total gross of more than $192.8-million, knocking Men in Black 2 ($190-million) out of the top five.

Greek Wedding's rise has been slow but steady. Released April 19, the film opened in a few theaters but continued expanding to the point that it has rarely been out of the top five box office list and almost never out of the top 10.

Greek Wedding's total tally could still grow fatter, but it is unlikely that the film will beat the fourth-place film of the year, Austin Powers in Goldmember, which has grossed $213-million.
