Men survive toppling garbage truck
By Times staff writer DADE CITY -- Two Zephyrhills men escaped serious injury Monday morning after getting trapped inside their overturned garbage truck. C.J. Funnell and Eric Kinnaman, both 22, were on their garbage pickup route, heading south on Prospect Road near Williams Cemetery Road about 10:30 Monday morning, when a northbound cement truck came toward them in the opposite lane. To make room for the two wide trucks, Kinnaman, who was driving, gave way to clear the cement truck. But the garbage truck went off the road, slid down the embankment, flipped over and hit a tree. Pasco County and Dade City rescue workers labored for more than an hour to free the men, who work for J.V. Funnell Fill Contractor of Zephyrhills. An ambulance took Funnell to East Pasco Medical Center, Dade City fire Capt. Joey Wubbena said. Funnell was resting at home Monday afternoon with a slightly sprained ankle. "I'm doing fine," he said. Kinnaman was flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, where he was listed in good condition Monday afternoon. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
