Charles David Romine, former police chief of the Winter Haven Police Department, was offered the St. Pete Beach police chief job Tuesday. Romine, 52, was selected from among 125 applicants, including five who visited the city for interviews last week. Here, Romine talks with St. Pete Beach police Sgt. Al Ostoits at a public reception Thursday night at St. Pete Beach City Hall. Romine spent most of his career with the South Miami Beach Police Department and retired from there in 1998. He then became police chief in Winter Haven and served there until July, when the city manager asked for his resignation. Romine will be in St. Pete Beach on Friday to discuss details of the position with City Manager Mike Bonfield.
