The sounds of the string man

Dave Matthews Band fans know about guitarist Tim Reynolds through his collaborations with the band and the double disc Live at Luther College, which he and Matthews released in 1999. Reynolds' solo work is pretty stellar, too. He not only excels on guitar -- especially acoustic -- he's also a master on sitar, mandolin, bass, piano and violin. This guy can do things with string you can't even imagine.
Tim Reynolds performs at 9 p.m. Friday at Twilight, 1507 E Seventh Ave., Ybor City. $10 advance, $15 day of show. (813) 247-4225.
Fun and fabulous

Not that the Babes sound much like the Fab Four. These ladies write with humor galore about how nutty society is, the stupidity of certain men and the woefully silly choices we make in romance
Irreverent and spirited, these ladies see everyone as fair game: Bill Clinton, guys on Viagra, HMO providers. They even have a song poking fun at guys with bald heads. Hey! Is that nice? Is it?
But it's not all silliness. Really fine melodies and harmonies are thrown in with the barbs, and the Babes sing their hearts out.
Four Bitchin' Babes perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S, St. Petersburg. $21-$25. (727) 892-5767.
