    Jazz Classic

    Known locally as the "other jazz festival," the 12th annual Suncoast Dixieland Jazz Classic starts today on Clearwater Beach. Among the 23 bands playing will be the Titan Hot Seven, the Nightblooming Jazzmen, the Buck Creek Jazz Band and Bill Allred's Classic Jazz Band. The event takes place at two venues, the Sheraton Sand Key Resort, 1160 Gulf Blvd., and the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort, 715 S Gulfview Blvd. The three-day event begins at 2:30 p.m. today with a performance by the Black Cat Jazz Band in the lobby of the Sheraton and continues until 11 p.m. at both hotels. On Saturday, the hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Weekend badges are available for $75; daily badges cost $25 for Friday and Sunday, $35 for all day Saturday. A $15 badge for Saturday from 6 p.m. to closing also is available. Bands will play gospel music for free from 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday. For information, call the festival hotline at (727) 536-0064.

    Indian dance

    Ragamala Music and Dance Theatre presents "From Temple to Theatre: Remembering Uday Shankar," a show celebrating the man who revolutionized East Indian dance by bringing it out of the temples and onto Western stages at 8 p.m. tonight at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center. Seven Indian dancers will perform to Japanese Taiko drumming and music composed by Shubbhendra Rao. The center is at 324 Pine St., Tarpon Springs.     CONCERT OF THANKSGIVING: The Dunedin Community Chorus and the Dunedin Concert Band will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Dunedin High School auditorium on Pinehurst Road. Admission is free.

    CALL OF THE WILD: Wildlife artists Gary Johnson (mixed media on handmade paper), Daniel Parker (bronzes), Robert Deurloo (bronzes) and others are exhibiting their work in a show called "Call of the Wild" through Nov. 30 at the Plainsmen Gallery, 2450 Sunset Point Road, Suite A, Clearwater. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Call (727) 726-5100.
