ORLANDO -- The release of a jailed Palestinian-American businessman was delayed Thursday while his family obtained an appraisal of the property that will be used to secure his $10-million bail.

Jesse Maali, 57, the millionaire owner of a tourist shop empire, had expected to be freed after a week in jail following his arrest on immigration violation charges.

But a hearing to review the source of his bail was delayed so appraisers could examine the property.

He was granted bail this week after a federal magistrate dismissed FBI concerns that he supports terrorist organizations.
