Visitation center director resigns

INVERNESS -- Jacquie Hepfer has resigned as executive director of the Citrus County Family Visitation Center. The center, located in Inverness, is a place where parents conduct supervised visits with their children while the family courts work out custody arrangements and visitation rights. People wishing to replace Hepfer should contact Alida Langley, president of the center's board of directors. Resumes are due by Dec. 5. Call 341-6720.

Blood donors sought for drive

LECANTO -- Blood donors are asked to participate in the Jessica Sanders honorary blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, Citrus Region, 1241 S Lecanto Highway. Sanders is in critical condition following a Nov. 16 car accident. Appointments are encouraged, walk-ins are welcome. Donors must be at least 17 and show valid photo ID. Call 527-3061.

Citrus finalist loses bid for PSC seat

LECANTO -- Robert Knight, Citrus County's director of utility regulation, was edged out by two other finalists for a seat on the state Public Service Commission. After interviewing Knight and seven other finalists in recent weeks, Gov. Jeb Bush on Wednesday reappointed J. Terry Deason and named Charles "Chuck" Davidson to the PSC. The five-member board regulates electric, gas, telecommunications and water utilities throughout the state with a few exceptions -- such as the local utilities regulated by the Citrus County Water and Wastewater Authority, which Knight advises. "I was very honored to be considered and to be one of the eight finalists," said Knight, one of 185 applicants this year.

Clarification

Crimes occurring within the jurisdiction of the Citrus County Sheriff's Office decreased 6.8 percent during the first six months of 2002 compared with the same period in 2001. A brief in Friday's Citrus Times only mentioned the combined statistics for all law enforcement agencies that serve the county.
