Some 80,000 wild Osceola turkeys roam the southern and central portions of Florida, finding cover in hardwood swamps and hammocks, cypress swamps and pine flats. The Osceola, which is prized game by hunters in the spring and fall, is named after the famed Seminole chief. This acrylic with colored pencil painting by Newson depicts a male, in front, and a female on the edge of a pine grove.
