BANKING

Wachovia Bank, which operates under the brand names First Union and Wachovia, announced the following promotion: Larry Starnes, to Pasco County president. Starnes was vice president and financial specialist sales leader at First Union Bank in Clearwater and Largo.

CONSTRUCTION

Tom Gorecki has been named a project manager for Sabals Townhomes, New Port Richey. Gorecki was a construction superintendent for the Schickedanz Bros. at Beacon Point, Hudson.

DIETARY

Brenda Applegarth has been named marketing director for Almased USA Inc., St. Petersburg. Applegarth was a marketing consultant for Z-Tel Communications, Tampa.

FINANCIAL

Ernst & Young, Tampa, announced the following promotions: Jennifer T. Frier, Jennifer Hamway and Steve Nichols, to audit senior managers from manager; Brian T. O'Neill and Jason Payant, to audit technology and security risk services senior managers from manager; Jon Elvin, to audit national advisory services senior manager from manager; C.J. Evans Jr., to tax senior manager from manager; Billy Bain, Jason Gryglewicz, Mark Seymour, Jeremy Smeltser, to audit manager from senor 3; Stephanie S. Schaff Whitmore, to tax manager from senior 3; and Joe Zejavac, to national tax manager from senior 3.

INSURANCE

Wallace Welch & Willingham Inc., St. Petersburg, announced the following: Christopher O'Brocto has been elected president and Stephen Farmer has been elected a director fo the Pinellas Association of Insurance Agents for 2002-03. O'Brocto has also been appointed to the Florida Association of Insurance Agents Legislative Committee. O'Brocto is a property and casulty consultant; and Framer is a benefits and compliance consultant.

LEGAL

Darrin T. Mish has been awarded Practitioner of the Year by the American Society of IRS Problem Solvers. Mish has a private law practice in Tampa.

Richard M. Zabak has been named partner-in-charge at the law firm of GrayHarris, Tampa. Added to his responsibilities as a shareholder, Zabak will manage the daily operations of GrayHarris' Tampa office

NONPROFIT

Ronald Caffrey has been elected chairman of the Pinellas/Suncoast Chapter 115 of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) Association. Johnson was vice president of marketing for Johnson Controls Inc., Milwaukee.

Tabitha Whalen has been named director of academic development for Pathfinder Outdoor Education, Largo. Whalen was assistant to the director at the University of South Florida Science Journalism Center.

ORGANIZATIONS

Michael S. Wheeler has been appointed to serve the state of Florida on the Presidential Business Commission. Wheeler is an honorary chairman of the Republican Party's Business Advisory Council and the owner of Audibel Hearing Centers, Seminole.

The following people were recognized by the Carrollwood Business and Professional Women's Organization for their contributions to the community and career accomplishments, outstanding efforts on behalf of women's issues or assistance to other women in the advancement of their careers. Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Institute, lecturer and nationally acclaimed writer. Small Business: Laura Van Hise, owner of Masterpiece Title Inc., Carrollwood.

RECRUITING

Carrie Tindell has been appointed as a technical recruiter for Veredus Corp., Tampa. Tindell was an account executive for Open Network Technologies, Clearwater.

THEATER

James Raulerson has been named public relations and marketing communications director for American Stage, St. Petersburg. Raulerson was director of marketing for the Tampa Metro YMCA.
