ST. PETERSBURG -- Police are looking for a man they believe responsible for five "smash and grab" burglaries in the past month, including four at the same store.

The man has been captured on surveillance cameras at the Eckerd Drugs store at 4260 Sixth Street S. That store has been burglarized in the same way four times this month.

In addition, the man is thought to have burglarized a Walgreens at 945 62nd Ave. S.

Police say the man smashed the glass in the front door of the store and rushed inside to take as many cartons of cigarettes as he could before making his getaway.

"He's got a big garbage bag that he fills up," said George L. Kajtsa, spokesman for the St. Petersburg Police Department. "He does it all in about a minute and a half."

The first burglary occurred the night of Nov. 1 at the Eckerd store. The second happened three days later.

Then the burglar hit the Walgreens on Nov. 15. The third burglary at Eckerd occurred Nov. 17, and the latest occurred about 1:48 a.m. Tuesday.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Susan Fraley of Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
