RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jan Hlavac scored three goals and Jeff O'Neill got the winner with 8:48 left as Carolina beat Detroit 6-4 in a rematch of last season's Stanley Cup final, which Detroit won four games to one.

Hurricanes goaltender Kevin Weekes suffered a concussion in the first period. The former Lightning goalie took an elbow from Carolina defenseman Bret Hedican after Hedican was pushed into the crease by Kirk Maltby.

Hlavac beat Curtis Joseph on a backhanded rebound for the third hat trick of his career with 15:34 left.

Detroit's Brett Hull scored with 35 seconds left on a two-man advantage to tie it at 4. O'Neill got Carolina's fifth power-play goal two minutes later and Sami Kapanen scored 1:37 after that.

"We gave a little bit of a power-play clinic, which our fans are not accustomed to seeing," said Arturs Irbe, who took over in Carolina's net after Weekes left.

MAPLE LEAFS 3, FLYERS 0: Ed Belfour passed Patrick Roy atop the active list in career shutouts for visiting Toronto. Belfour had 21 saves for his 62nd shutout and second against the Flyers in six days. He beat Philadelphia 6-0 Saturday in Toronto.

BRUINS 4, CANADIENS 2: Michal Grosek broke a tie with his first goal of the season, lifting host Boston. Grosek scored 11/2 minutes after Montreal's Richard Zednik tied it at 2 with his second goal of the game.

MIGHTY DUCKS 2, KINGS 2: Keith Carney had a goal and an assist and Niclas Havelid also scored for host Anaheim. Eric Belanger converted Steve Heinze's pass from behind the net 33 seconds into the third to put Los Angeles ahead 2-1. Carney pulled Anaheim even less than three minutes later on a rebound.

SENATORS 6, CAPITALS 2: Marian Hossa's goal extended his point-scoring streak to a franchise-record 12 games for visiting Ottawa, 7-0-2 since losing at Boston on Nov. 9. Hossa broke the Senators' mark for consecutive scoring games set by Alexei Yashin in 1998-99. Wings Peter Bondra and Jaromir Jagr returned for Washington; Bondra missed three games with back spasms and Jagr sat out Wednesday's game with a sore groin.

WILD 2, AVALANCHE 2: Antti Laaksonen's third-period goal lifted host Minnesota into a tie. The Wild had lost its previous two games. Vaclav Nedorost gave Colorado a 2-1 lead with a goal in the second period.

PENGUINS 4, SABRES 1: Alexei Kovalev scored twice and added an assist, leading visiting Pittsburgh into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division. Johan Hedberg made 43 saves for the Penguins, who scored on power-play goals 27 seconds apart in the second period for a 2-0 lead.

BLUE JACKETS 4, ISLANDERS 2: Ray Whitney scored twice to help visiting Columbus snap a three-game losing streak. Columbus has never lost to New York, winning three of four with a tie.

BLUES 7, FLAMES 2: Pavol Demitra scored three goals for his third career hat trick and added an assist for host St. Louis. Blues goalie Tom Barrasso left after one period with a back strain. Fred Brathwaite finished in net. Coach Joel Quenneville said Barrasso likely will miss tonight's game against the Devils.

DEVILS 2, PREDATORS 1: Backup goalie Corey Schwab had 28 saves for visiting New Jersey in his second start this season in relief of Martin Brodeur. Jay Pandolfo scored the go-ahead goal in the second on a wrist shot.

STARS 3, RANGERS 3: Brenden Morrow scored twice, including the tying goal in the second period, for Dallas, which remained unbeaten at home in regulation (9-0-1-1). Tom Poti had two goals for New York.

FLYERS: Forward John LeClair will miss up to 12 weeks. LeClair said he will have surgery next week for a dislocated shoulder. He was injured in Wednesday's 7-2 loss at Pittsburgh.

ISLANDERS: Defensemen Sven Butenschon and Ray Schultz were sent down to Bridgeport of the AHL and forward Eric Manlow and defenseman Radek Martinek were recalled.

Parrots lose to Orlando

ST. PETERSBURG -- Right wing Joe Seroski had a hat trick to lead the Orlando Seals past the Parrots 3-1 in front of 602 in the Times Arena at Bayfront Center. Seroski's first two goals came in the first period, both on power plays. Cory Dzikowski scored for the Parrots. The game was also the area return for one of the original Tampa Bay Lightning players, Orlando coach Stan Drulia. "This is still home," he said. "I have a place here as well as Orlando. But it's great to be back, we're having a lot of fun, my guys are working hard for me and I'm learning a lot."
