William Bert Horne, the father of Clearwater City Manager Bill Horne, died Friday (Nov. 29, 2002) in Oklahoma.

Known as "Billy," the senior Horne, 75, of Tulsa, retired from Yuba Heat in 1996 after 27 years of service.

Before that, he worked 18 years at Oklahoma Steel Casting Co., where friends and co-workers called him "Buckskin."

Born in Perry, Okla., in 1926, Mr. Horne grew up in Wellington, Kan. He served two years in the Navy before before moving to Wichita, Kan., in 1946.

In 1952, Mr. Horne moved to Tulsa. He was a member of Paradise Baptist Church, and later sang in the choir and served as deacon and treasurer at Greater Sunrise Baptist Church in Tulsa.

In addition to his son Bill, survivors include Mr. Horne's wife, Maxine Ware Horne; a daughter, Anita Record, of Tulsa; stepsons Aubrey Griffin of San Antonio, Texas, and the Rev. Don Griffin of Tulsa; stepdaughters Priscilla Wilson, Annette Batiste and Calvenia Goff, all of Tulsa; and brothers and sisters, Delbert of Wellington, Eddie, Johnny, Alonzo and Odelia Littleton, Pearl Pittman and Margaret Kyle, all of San Diego, and Donna Kay Kirk, Bobby Haydon, and Simon Hayden, all of Wichita; and half-brothers Ernest of Washington, D.C., Pastor Louis Liggins of Denver, and Edgar Lucas, of Dallas.

Mr. Horne will be buried at Green Acres Memorial Garden in Tulsa following a funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday in the Greater Sunrise Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Dyer Memorial Chapel, Tulsa.

The city manager will travel to Tulsa Thursday and plans to return Sunday.
