No longer singing for suds
Slobberbone isn't the biggest band on the planet, but its fans are fiercely loyal. The Texas quartet has been dishing out dirty alt-country rock since 1992, back when the band played sloppy sets for free beer.
Slobberbone has honed its songwriting over the years, crafting tunes rich in characters and stories, evident on 2000's excellent Everything You Thought Was Right Is Wrong. That album is filled with morosely funny tunes about obsessive love and the kind of twangy Southern boy odes, such as Gimme Back My Dog, that would make anyone in the Lone Star state proud.
Slobberbone performs with Delta Moon at 8 p.m. Friday at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, Tampa. $10 advance, $13 at the door. (813) 977-6474.
