Two lawyers face discipline from Bar

A Tarpon Springs attorney has been suspended from practicing law and a Clearwater attorney voluntarily resigned his law license after unrelated accusations of misconduct.

The Florida Supreme Court ordered the one-year suspension of J.J. Daiak of 1227 N Florida Ave., Tarpon Springs. The Florida Bar said he abandoned his law practice and was found in contempt of court in Pasco County for failing to appear at a deposition.

Daiak, a lawyer since 1995, ignored subpoenas to show up at the deposition and failed to respond to a Florida Bar complaint about his behavior, the Bar said.

Pasco County Judge Marc Salton sentenced Daiak to five days in jail on the contempt finding. The judge said he would vacate the sentence if Daiak showed up at a re-scheduled deposition.

    Daiak didn't appear.

It is unclear if Daiak, who could not be reached for comment on Thursday, served the sentence.

William Ray Dickey of 1421 Court St., Clearwater, resigned his law license in lieu of disciplinary proceedings by the bar after several allegations of misconduct, which the Florida Bar said included involvement in a conflict of interest matter, prohibited transactions and false statements.

The Supreme Court said Dickey's resignation is tantamount to disbarment since he can't reapply to the Florida Bar.

Dickey, a lawyer for more than 25 years, could not be reached for comment, and the Florida Bar was unable to provide further details about his case late Thursday afternoon.
