Kitty City expands, now rescues strays

CARROLLWOOD -- Kitty City, the luxury boarding facility for finicky felines, has expanded to include rescue operations. Located now at 5321 Gunn Highway, the facility is twice its old size and takes in strays for adoption.

"We have been doing it informally for seven years," said owner Cynthia Flowers. "We rescue 300 to 350 cats and kittens a year and rely solely on food donations and money donations and litter donations."

Flowers said she takes precautions to make sure boarded animals are not endangered.

"We cannot take cats brought in the door," she said. People bringing in strays must first "call and go through a veterinarian."

The kennel also has an indigent care program for people who have lost their jobs, or are temporarily ill and cannot work and have no means of buying food or litter for their cat.

"That way they don't have to give the cat up and can keep it in the original home," Flowers said.
