Driver reports he was forced from roadDADE CITY -- A 45-year-old man told authorities he was driving on Prospect Road about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday with his two daughters and a friend when a man in a red pickup tried to run him off the road and pointed a gun at him. Tim Hines of Dade City told sheriff's deputies he escaped when a blue dump truck drove between him and the man wielding the gun. No arrests had been made Thursday. According to a sheriff's report, Hines was heading north on Prospect Road near Handcart Road when a red Toyota pickup pulled out of an orange grove. He told deputies the truck pulled up beside him, forced him off the road repeatedly and popped one of his tires. The man pulled over on Clinton Avenue and got out of his truck, the report states. Hines, who pushed his 8-year-old daughters to the floorboard, said the man then pulled what appeared to be a handgun out of a toolbox and yelled at Hines to come back. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
