Flag wavers give funds to charitiesBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published December 7, 2002 TAMPA -- The Bayshore Patriots donated more than $6,000 to charity Friday, thanks to contributions from hundreds of supporters. The group of flag wavers gave $2,000 each to Warm Heart, which gives temporary financial assistance to needy military families; the Warriors Foundation, which provides scholarships to children of Special Operations soldiers killed in the line of duty; and the Gold Shield Foundation, a Tampa-based group that helps educate the children of fallen police and firefighters. Friday's contributions are what remained of donations given to organize the Flags Along the Bayshore anniversary event in September, said group spokeswoman Janet Odioso. The money was presented to charity representatives at Bayshore and Bay to Bay boulevards, where the patriots wave American flags every Friday. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
