By Times Staff Writer Furniture gets new life from students for charityNORTHDALE -- Funky furniture that may have once found its way to the curb is being recycled and refurbished for charity by Gaither High School students this month. "We take all discarded items or items that are donated or items from thrift stores or garage sales and we do a refurbishing project in my creative design and sewing class," said Gaither teacher TanaHarper. A silent auction that began last week will end at 3 p.m. Monday. The auction is open to the public. Bidding on the more than 70 items starts at $1. "Desks, chairs, (antiqued) filing cabinets; you name it," said Harper. Students have fashioned stools and children's chairs, coffee tables with hand-painted still life scenes. There is even a filing cabinet that doubles as a clothes dresser. "I think it's amazing what the students come up with," she said. "I'm just so proud of them." Call Gaither High School at 975-7340. The school is at 16200 N Dale Mabry Highway.
