COACH: Sam Koleduk (32-18-6, third season).
CURRENT RECORD: 4-1.
LAST SEASON: 18-8-4, 10-4-2 SAC (second), district runner-up.
KEY RETURNERS: Drew Roberts (Sr., MF), Brandon King (Sr., GK), Bosho Maric (So., F), Novica Maric (So., F/MF).
OUTLOOK: The high-scoring Bucs hope to have a defense to match thanks to three River Ridge transfers, led by sweeper Devon Hill. Talented forward Richard Jata, ruled ineligible after transferring from Bollettieri Academy, could add even more spark to the offense if an appeal goes through in January. King, who had a county-best 11 shutouts last season, is a rare commodity this season -- a keeper with varsity experience.
SCHEDULE: December 9-13 -- Coca-Cola Classic at Tarpon Springs; 16 -- Hudson; 18 -- Wesley Chapel; 20 -- Crystal River. January 2 -- at Wesley Chapel; 3 -- at Ridgewood; 6 -- Mitchell; 8 -- Land O'Lakes; 10 -- Zephyrhills; 13 -- at Hudson; 15 -- at Zephyrhills; 17 -- at Pasco; 20 -- at Ridgewood; 22 -- Leesburg; 24 -- at River Ridge; 29 -- Ridgewood.
COACH SAYS: "The main goal is to get out of districts. There's going to be a lot of teams in there this year -- Hudson's playing real good, and I think Wesley Chapel is much-improved."
COACH: Ron Ladimir (69-35-4, fifth season).
CURRENT RECORD: 3-1.
LAST SEASON: 12-10, 9-7 (fourth).
KEY RETURNERS: Jeremy Enix (So., F), Craig Bielkowski (So., MF).
OUTLOOK: Only three of Hudson's 17 players are seniors, making the Cobras not only a strong contender this year but a bigger threat next season. Enix was third in the county in scoring as a freshman with 17 goals and 12 assists, but Hudson's scoring early has been spread around: Six players have scored the team's first eight goals. For the second year in a row, Ladimir will has an untested rookie in goal. Travis Miller, who finished third in the county with 776 rushing yards in football, has had an encouraging start, allowing two goals in four games, including a 3-1 win against Land O'Lakes.
SCHEDULE: December 9 -- at Ridgewood; 11 -- Zephyrhills; 13 -- at River Ridge; 18 -- at Pasco; 19 -- Hernando. January 2-4 -- Leesburg Invitational; 6 -- Lecanto; 8 -- Pasco; 10 -- at Land O'Lakes; 13 -- Gulf; 15 -- at Wesley Chapel; 17 -- at Central; 22 -- at Mitchell; 24 -- at Lecanto; 27 -- Ridgewood; 30 -- Mitchell.
COACH SAYS: "Honestly, we have the talent to do pretty good and hold our own. We're young, and I thought we'd struggle with immaturity, but they're doing well."
COACH: Mark Pearson (93-29-11, sixth season).
CURRENT RECORD: 3-4.
LAST SEASON: 14-7-4, 10-3-3 (first), district champion.
KEY RETURNERS: Keith Strand (Sr., SW), Trae Martin (Sr., D), Kyle Boerner (So., GK), Eric Martin (Sr., F), Andrew Falcon (Jr., MF).
OUTLOOK: Strand and Martin might be the toughest defenders in the county, and they're joined by freshman T.R. Finney, who has stepped in as the marking back and keyed a shutout against high-scoring Gulf on Wednesday. Boerner is one of the county's most experienced keepers, and Martin returns after scoring a team-best 11 goals last season. After seven games, 10 players have a goal or assist, with Falcon creating many opportunities from the left side.
SCHEDULE: December 11 -- at Ridgewood; 16 -- at Mitchell. January 6 -- at Wesley Chapel; 8 -- at Gulf; 10 -- Hudson; 13 -- River Ridge; 15 -- Pasco; 17 -- at Zephyrhills; 21 -- Clearwater Central Catholic; 22 -- Ridgewood.
COACH SAYS: "I think overall, we're a real solid team. We might not have a shining star, but there's a lot of good, young players."
COACH: Pio Rizzo (4-17-2, second season).
CURRENT RECORD: 2-3-1.
LAST SEASON: 4-17-2, 3-11-2 (eighth).
KEY RETURNERS: Mike McDevitt (Jr., F), Ryan Villiard (Jr., MF).
OUTLOOK: McDevitt, who came on strong at the end of last season and is recovering from a torn ACL in the spring, has five goals in the first six games. Villiard is a captain and leader on the field, though the Mustangs will miss senior midfielder Mike Matthews, out for the season with an ACL tear. Rizzo figured freshman defender Mike Ciadella would play junior varsity initially, but he's been so impressive that he's not only on the varsity but has played every minute. Juniors Bill Chapman and Ryan Davis, who platooned last year, figure to do the same.
SCHEDULE: December 10 -- Gulf; 11 -- Pasco; 13 -- Leesburg; 16 -- Land O'Lakes; 19 -- at Zephyrhills. January 7 -- at Gulf; 8 -- at Ridgewood; 10 -- at East Ridge; 13 -- at River Ridge; 15 -- Springstead; 17 -- Wesley Chapel; 21 -- at Wesley Chapel; 22 -- Hudson; 24 -- at Leesburg; 27 -- at Pasco; 29 -- River Ridge; 30 -- at Hudson.
COACH SAYS: "We really can't blame it on being underclassmen anymore, because of the majority of the core group is juniors now. Everybody's learning their roles quickly."
COACH: Keith Sumner (seventh season).
CURRENT RECORD: NA.
LAST SEASON: 9-11-1, 7-9 (seventh).
KEY RETURNERS: Matt Prowant (Sr., F), Ino Cano (So., F).
OUTLOOK: Pasco nearly kept Gulf out of the playoffs, losing in penalty kicks in the district semifinals. Last season's team was led by seven seniors.
SCHEDULE: December 11 -- at Mitchell; 16 -- at River Ridge; 18 -- Hudson; January 8 -- at Hudson; 10 -- Ridgewood; 13 -- at Zephyrhills; 15 -- at Land O'Lakes; 17 -- Gulf; 27 -- Mitchell;
COACH: Ed McComiskey (30-35-10, fourth season).
CURRENT RECORD: 4-1-1.
LAST SEASON: 10-14-3, 7-7-2 (sixth).
KEY RETURNERS: Tanner Wolfe (Jr., F), Jose Anazco (Sr., MF), Dimos Kalathakis (Jr., MF).
OUTLOOK: Wolfe, Anazco and Kalathakis all were in double-digits in goals last season, and Wolfe, a third-year starter, has eight goals and four assists in the first six games. Anazco's brother, Julio, offered to step in at keeper despite no experience and has been a pleasant surprise. Sweeper Joe Panetta missed most of last season with two six-week red-card suspensions.
SCHEDULE: December 9 -- Hudson; 11 -- Land O'Lakes; 13 -- East Ridge; 16 -- at Springstead; 19 -- at Zephyrhills. January 3 -- Gulf; 7 -- River Ridge; 8 -- Mitchell; 10 -- at Pasco; 13 -- Wesley Chapel; 15 -- Central; 17 -- at Leesburg; 20 -- Gulf; 22 -- at Land O'Lakes; 24 -- at East Ridge; 27 -- at Hudson; 29 -- at Gulf; 31 -- Zephyrhills.
COACH SAYS: "We're 4-1-1, but I'd say we should be 6-0. We have a strong team, and it's a good core of experienced players."
COACH: Steve Doyle (first season).
CURRENT RECORD: 1-3-1.
LAST SEASON: 7-8-6, 7-5-4 (fifth).
KEY RETURNERS: Ryan Wierenga (Sr., D), Russell Oliver (Sr., MF), Kyle Willett (Jr., D), Matt Turner (Sr., D).
OUTLOOK: Doyle, who coached the Mitchell girls the past two seasons, is the Knights' third coach in four years. Four players transferred to Gulf before Doyle arrived, and he has had to shuffle his lineup early. Leading scorer Vince Cerbini could be suspended for as much as six weeks and Willett will miss a month with an ankle injury.
SCHEDULE: December 9 -- at Zephyrhills; 13 -- Hudson; 16 -- Pasco. January 7 -- at Ridgewood; 9 -- at East Lake; 10 -- at Wesley Chapel; 13 -- at Land O'Lakes; 14 -- Mitchell; 16 -- East Lake; 22 -- Zephyrhills; 24 -- Gulf; 29 -- at Mitchell; 30 -- Lecanto.
COACH SAYS: "We have a lot of young incoming players, but we're playing well. We're in every game, and I don't want to start quick and fizzle out."
COACH: Brian Dorkowski (first season).
CURRENT RECORD: 1-3.
LAST SEASON: 5-15-2, 1-13-2 (ninth).
KEY RETURNERS: Brett Eisenbrown (Sr., D), Trent Cooper (Sr., F), Joey Zummo (Sr., D), Chad Jones (Sr. D).
OUTLOOK: Former Gulf assistant Dorkowski, who has also coached at Weightman Middle, is the Wildcats' third coach in as many years. Senior Tim Davis and sophomore Joe Berenger are splitting time in goal. The Wildcats' leading scorer after four games is Gabriel Montelongo, who transferred from Pasco.
SCHEDULE: December 9 -- at Pasco; 13 -- Zephyrhills; 16 -- at Gulf; 18 -- Gulf. January 6 -- Land O'Lakes; 8 -- Pasco; 10 -- River Ridge; 13 -- at Ridgewood; 15 -- Hudson; 17 -- at Mitchell; 21 -- Mitchell; 22 -- Pasco.
COACH: Phillip Castro (fifth season).
CURRENT RECORD: 1-3-1.
LAST SEASON: 11-6-2, 10-5-1 (third).
KEY RETURNERS: Kyle Briscoe (Sr., F), John McKnight (Sr., MF), Justin Chauncey (Sr., F), A.J. Blackstone (Sr., D).
OUTLOOK: With several players out, the Bulldogs stumbled to a 1-3-1 start Castro conceded as the worst in his 10 years in the program. McKnight has two goals to lead a balanced offense, and Castro is hoping a close-knit team can find the same success as the football team. Freshman Spencer Border takes over in goal.
SCHEDULE: December 9 -- River Ridge; 11 -- at Hudson; 13 -- at Wesley Chapel; 19 -- Ridgewood; 20-23 -- Puma tournament. January 8 -- Mitchell; 10 -- at Gulf; 11 -- Tampa Prep; 13 -- Pasco; 17 -- Land O'Lakes; 22 -- at River Ridge; 31 -- at Ridgewood.
COACH SAYS: "We've been missing a lot of guys, and it's hurt us on offense. When you have two threats up front, it's nice, because a team can't just concentrate on one."
CLASS 3A, DISTRICT 7: Mitchell, Ridgewood, Central, Springstead, Clermont East Ridge, Leesburg; tournament at Springstead, Feb. 3-7.
CLASS 2A, DISTRICT 8: Gulf, Hudson, Land O'Lakes, Pasco, River Ridge, Wesley Chapel, Zephyrhills; tournament at Hudson, Feb. 3-7.
