'Sky' readers to get whole story on newspaper consultantBy STEVE HUETTEL, Times Staff Writer© St. Petersburg Times published December 9, 2002 Readers of Delta Air Lines' in-flight magazine will finally get the rest of the story about newspaper designer Mario Garcia. You may recall that Garcia, who is based in Tampa, was the subject of a Sky magazine business traveler profile last month, but many readers were perplexed to find the story cut off in mid sentence. The reason: Delta didn't like an advertisement with a photo of a ramp worker tossing a bag through the air onto luggage cart. The flying bag was circled with the caption "Travel is tough. Your luggage needs to be tougher." So, the airline had two pages removed from hundreds of thousands of copies of the November issue of Sky, pages that also carried the continuation of its Garcia profile. The magazine will reprint the article in its January issue because a "significant number" of passengers asked to read the story in its entirety, according to Delta. Garcia says the passengers included some executives of the Wall Street Journal, which he redesigned this year. The airline also gave Garcia, a 100,000-mile-a-year Delta traveler, a framed plaque with the story and cover of the magazine. The airline says that's standard for anyone profiled in the monthly feature called B-Travel. Garcia says Delta has also promised him a travel voucher to make up for any hard feelings. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
