Free word association

How do you think? Do you follow a stream of thought from one end to the other? Or do you skip around randomly? You'll either love or hate TextArc based on the way your mind puts things together. Bring your Java-enabled browser and set this Web-based program loose on classics such as Alice in Wonderland and other e-books from Project Gutenberg (gutenberg.net). The most frequently used words are spelled out and pulled into the center of TextArc. If your mind is used to jumping around, it's amazing to see the phrases and ideas jumping off this innovative application. It's now on the top of my bookmark list.

Makes sense

www.GoingWare.com/tips/marketing.html

While trolling through my usual sources of disinformation, I stumbled on a post by the owner of this site and decided to give his Web site a spin. What a thrill to find somebody who's obviously deeply technical but understands the ins and outs of marketing and business. Even if you're not in the computer trade, there's some great basic -- and free -- advice to be had for any small or medium business on promoting oneself in a nonintrusive and nonirritating way. There's even a vitriolic tirade reserved for that most interesting of creatures, the high-tech recruiter.

A downsized car

www.vwVortex.com/news/04_02/04_16/

This diminutive car, if you can even call it that, rivals my two-wheeled conveyance in the gas sipping arena. Rather than gulping the stuff down like free coffee at a Wal-Mart opening, its aerodynamic and lightweight design promotes efficiency and is surprisingly stylish. But I bet you an oil change you'll never see it on the streets in this country. I don't think we're ready as a nation for something as radical as automotive downsizing. Not to mention getting squashed when taking on a Suburban for that last, great parking space at the mall. You'll enjoy this article if you've even got a passing interest in planet friendly, semi-alternative transportation.

Nothing is better than work

www.NotWriting.com/resources.htm

If nothing is better than work, then, logically, it's probably better to do nothing. And who better to illuminate wastrel way than a writer? Douglas Adams, the patron saint of late filers, always said he enjoyed deadlines and the whooshing sounds they made as they went by. If you're looking to do a whole lot of not very much today, this page is for you. It's jammed full of links that have nothing to do with your miserable job.

Click to give

www.NetworkForGood.org/

Apart from the guilt-inducing calculator area, I really like this site. After all, none of us is under any obligation to give anything, and we should part with what we think is appropriate rather than a tithe-like percentage. So, after rearranging my ruffled feathers, I clicked around and found a bunch of very worthy causes that are in need of my hard-earned cash. I think my favorite part is the wish list. Just like big retail sites, you can create a list of the places you like the most and share with friends and relatives. Ho, ho, ho, indeed.
