By Times staff writer Woman accused of hitting pregnant Bushnell teenagerCRYSTAL RIVER -- Authorities on Sunday arrested a woman on charges that she struck a pregnant woman. Karen Judge, 48, is accused of punching the pregnant woman Sunday during an altercation at 6676 W Gulf to Lake Highway, or State Road 44, in Crystal River, according to an arrest report. The pregnant woman was identified as Jennifer Bailey, 18, of Bushnell, and the assault took place at Bailey's ex-boyfriend's home. The ex-boyfriend, not named, was identified in the report only as Judge's son and the father of Bailey's baby. Judge was held on one count of aggravated battery on a pregnant person. She remained at the Citrus County jail on Monday with bail set at $5,000. Man faces charges in struggle with deputies at hospitalCRYSTAL RIVER -- A man was arrested Saturday on charges that he battered a law enforcement officer during a struggle with two deputies at Seven Rivers Community Hospital. Howard Ronprey, 44, 3450 S Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa, was taken by ambulance to Seven Rivers about 6:30 p.m. Saturday for a possible drug overdose, an arrest report showed. He told deputies he had taken several Valiums and washed the pills down with liquor. At Seven Rivers, Ronprey allegedly began arguing with deputies and tried to leave the emergency room, the report showed. A struggle ensued, and the arrest report stated that Ronprey tried to grab a deputy's gun. He also kicked one of them. Ronprey remained at the Citrus County jail Monday with bail set at $5,500. Early Head Start program opens with 13 childrenHERNANDO -- Early Head Start made its Citrus County debut Monday, with 13 children ages 3 months to 2 1/2 years old attending a session at the Historic Hernando School campus. The federally funded program, administered locally by Childhood Development Services, serves primarily low-income children. Like Head Start, its companion program for older children, Early Head Start is designed to help kids develop, learn and achieve better than they otherwise would. The program works with children age 6 weeks to 3 years old. It is licensed to serve 24 children in Citrus; three enrollment spots are reserved for children with diagnosed disabilities.
