LAND O'LAKES -- Broken substation equipment caused about 1,900 Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative customers in Land O'Lakes and Wesley Chapel to lose power for a couple of hours Monday morning. Problems began when lights dimmed about 7 a.m. in the affected households. By 8:55, the electric company reported total loss of power.
Equipment failed at the Tampa Downs substation on State Road 54, about 2 miles west of Interstate 75, utility spokesman Ernie Holzhauer said. When Withlacoochee rerouted power into homes from other sources, electricity returned by 10 a.m. The company serves neighborhoods such as Lake Padgett Estates East in Land O'Lakes.
