ST. PETERSBURG -- Garden Crest Presbyterian Church, 5901 Ninth Ave. N, plans to open Garden Crest Christian Academy in January. The non-profit school will offer programs for children ages 12 months to 5 years.

The school's director is Jean Cavaliere, the former head of Kids Christian Care Pre-School at First United Methodist Church in Pinellas Park.

Garden Crest Christian Academy will include approximately eight teachers and aides to oversee the 55 children. More staff will be added for holiday and summer camps as well as care before and after school. Along with daily lessons in phonics and math, the school includes Spanish and German lessons, ballet, weekly chapel and theater.

Tuition will range from $93 per week for pre-kindergarteners to $130 per week for toddlers. The school plans on participating in Coordinated Childcare, the state's subsidized child care program.
