Leto High football team looking for a new coach

TOWN N' COUNTRY -- Leto High School has launched a search for a new head football coach.

Andy Martin, who went 4-26 the past three seasons, recently resigned.

Martin took over the program in 1998 and had immediate success, guiding the Falcons to a district championship that year and a district runnerup finish and playoff victory the next. But the program fell on hard times. Leto went 0-10 in 2000, 4-6 in 2001 and 0-10 this past season.

Qualified applicants are encouraged to call principal Dan Bonilla at 872-5317.

Chamberlain High to host basketball tournament

NORTH TAMPA -- The seventh annual three-day Chamberlain Christmas Tournament is scheduled to start Thursday in the Chiefs gym.

Boys basketball teams competing this year include Blake, Chamberlain, Gaither, Hillsborough, Leto, Riverview, Sickles and Tampa Bay Tech.

"We started this tournament to provide fun and competition for area teams so they wouldn't have to travel so far to play during the Christmas break," Chamberlain coach Doug Aplin said. "It is hard to say who the favorite is, but we do have a good lineup this year. They can play without having to leave their families during Christmas."

Tickets, available at the door, are $4 per day. The championship game is set for 4 p.m. Saturday.
